MOZAMBIQUE: DEMOCRACY, GOVERNANCE AND CORRUPTION CC should have rethought the decision of CNE - says CIP The Center for Public Integrity (CIP) argues that the Constitutional Council (CC) "should have rethought" the decision of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) to exclude parties from the general elections of 28 October. Commenting yesterday on decision of the CC, CIP believes that the court "should have rethought" the decision to exclude the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), arguing that the documents submitted by the party show that the map control of applications of CNE "did not match some of their own official documents." "The Constitutional Council has accepted in good faith that the map control applications was accurate records and therefore did not ask the parties to respond. We should at least admit that the map of control may not be exact," says CIP. For the organization, the CC should publish the map of complete control and allow the parties to submit any evidence that this instrument is not correct. http://www.opais.co.mz/opais/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2862:cc-devia-ter-repensado-decisao-cne-diz-cip&catid=63:politica&Itemid=273 Thirty opposition parties call for economic sanctions by the international community Thirty opposition parties are calling for the international community to apply economic sanctions to the Mozambican Government, because the rejection of candidacies by the National Electoral Commission (CNE), which came to be legitimized by the Constitutional Council. The meeting took place last Wednesday, between 12:00 and 13:30, in the amphitheater of ISCISA. Canal de Moçambique. 2nd October, 2009. Elections: Three arrested in scenes of violence in Manica Beatings with hot sauce mix among other violence scenes is the aftermath of clashes involving members of electoral caravans of FRELIMO and RENAMO in the district of Sussundenga, located in the north of the central province of Manica. These scenes resulted in three detainees indicted for crimes of assault and destruction of election propaganda. Representatives of the two rival parties accuse each other of obstructing electoral campaigning material. They argue that when one takes the initiative to move to a place in the campaign, the other takes a lead and does to the ground before, what provokes anger among members of two caravans, leading to skirmishes. http://www.opais.co.mz/opais/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2861:eleicoes-tres-detidos-em-cenas-de-violencia-em-manica&catid=63:politica&Itemid=273
