POLITICS IN MOZAMBIQUE

FRELIMO deputies disagree with the Minister of Public Service
The declarations of members of the FRELIMO parliamentary group in the parliament, differ from what was defended by the Minister of Public Service, Victoria Diogo, on the politicization of the state. While the minister defends that the state is not partisan, Members of FRELIMO say clearly and categorically that "there is a need to foster party factionalism within the state apparatus."
Members of FRELIMO say that the creation of cells of the FRELIMO party in the public institutions does not create the exclusion of other Mozambicans who are not members of the party in power, but rather aims to organize members of FRELIMO in the State apparatus.

RENAMO demands creation of a commission to investigate public institutions
The RENAMO parliamentary group demanded yesterday the government, the creation of an independent commission of inquiry to conduct an investigation and determine whether or not there are cells of FRELIMO party in the State apparatus. This announcement comes after the Government, through its Minister of Public Service, Victoria Diogo, has said in its report that the State is not a political partisan. Not satisfied with these statements, Rep. of RENAMO, Ivone Soares, understands the need for a statement of facts through a study done in all institutions of the State Apparatus.

Foreign citizens still being held in Maputo after serving sentence
A group of eight foreign citizens that already served its sentence in the Maximum Security Jail of Machava (BO) for more than three years, remains incarcerated at the 18th squadron of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Maputo, allegedly because PRM is still preparing conditions for repatriation.
They denounced the situation in a meeting with the Attorney General (PGR), Augusto Paulino, who visited the squadron on Tuesday. Inmates also complained that they pass long time without eating, situation that they consider "inhumane." On occasion, Augusto Paulino said the state is committing a crime by keeping people who have already served their respective sentences, incarcerated.
