POLITICS IN MOZAMBIQUE

Management of the OIIL generates conflicts in Nampula
In Nampula, the process of distribution and management of the Fund for Support to the Local Initiatives (FIIL), commonly known as "seven million" is cause of several disputes and conflicts between some popular and the local government.
During the visit to the province, President Armando Guebuza was faced with various situations related to lack of transparency in the application of the money. Some participants in mass rallies denounced cases of corruption allegedly staged by some administrators and other staff of the state and FRELIMO party. This is a situation that, in addition to compromising the national agenda against poverty, is contributing to the poor relationship between government and citizens.

Exploration of raw timber reduced 17%
The exploitation of wood in logs, between 2007 and 2009, has registered a downward trend as a result of law enforcement in forest and wildlife (Law 10/99 of 7th July) and the Ministerial Decree of 8/2006 of 20th December. These regulations restrict the export of woods in logs through some forest species for the first class, a fact that contributes to discourage demand of the holding of this type of timber for export. The information was given yesterday in Parliament by the Minister of Agriculture, Soares Nhaca.
