RENAMO and Dhlakama not recognize the victory of FRELIMO
RENAMO and its presidential candidate, Afonso Dhlakama, do not recognize the results of general elections of last week, and accused the executive of promoting irregularities and fraud.
At a press conference, the spokesperson of the party, Ivone Soares, yesterday accused the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE), of being "a cell of FRELIMO, which sabotaged the elections, from the time of registration to the voting process″.

MDM without enough seats to constitute bench
The current regime of the Parliament only allows a party to form a bench with a minimum of 11 deputies. If current projections are true and MDM finish with just eight members, it has not a quorum to constitute a bench. Its Members will only be spectators.

Former RENAMO guerrillas threaten to unleash an armed rebellion
Former RENAMO guerrillas threaten to unleash an armed rebellion if the electoral bodies not annul the results of the general elections of last Wednesday. About three hundred of these ex-fighters have gathered, last Monday at the provincial headquarters of the Party, in Nampula, and gave the deadline of 72 hours to the electoral bodies to annul the elections.
They said if their demands are not met they will return to the old RENAMO bases to start what they call "armed rebellion against the government of FRELIMO″.

Cavaco Silva congratulates and invites Armando Guebuza
The President of Portugal, Anibal Cavaco Silva, congratulated FRELIMO and its presidential candidate Armando Guebuza, on his re-election to the office of President of the Republic, via telephone.
In the conversation between the two presidents, the Portuguese President wished success to his counterpart and stressed that the elections on 28 October demonstrated the civic spirit of the Mozambican people and their call for democracy. Cavaco Silva called on President Guebuza to visit Portugal, which invitation was accepted by the Mozambican statesman.

Troika of SADC meets in Maputo
President Armando Guebuza holds tomorrow, in Maputo, the Summit of the Troika of the SADC organ for cooperation in the fields of Politics, Defense and Security, which comprises Mozambique, Swaziland and Zambia.
The summit aims to review the political situation in the region, especially Zimbabwe and the Kingdom of Lesotho. It will be preceded by a meeting of the body at the ministerial level to take place today in Maputo.

Election 2009: CNE starts with general counting of votes
The National Electoral Commission (CNE) starts today with the clearance of the general elections of 28 October.
To this end, the provincial electoral commissions have to channel, since yesterday, the CNE maps of provincial tabulation results for re-qualification and subsequent preparation of the statement of the final results of the elections. The statement of the electoral results must be subsequently validated by the Constitutional Council.

Detained for diverting money for pension
Five officials of the delegation of the National Institute for Social Security (INSS) in Tete were arrested yesterday, charged of involvement in embezzlement of that institution in the amount of 13.300.000 Meticais, from 2005 to 2008.
Detainees are A. Zenguelane, former delegate of the INSS, and four other officers of those services in Tete. Combat HIV / AIDS: Drop out of treatment concerns health sector
Five to ten percent of patients with HIV / AIDS drop out of antiretroviral treatment (ART), a situation that worries health authorities of the country. That is why this sector is to devise strategies to reverse this scenario, increasing capacity and improving the National Health Service (SNS), with a focus on counseling.
Leonardo Chavane, deputy national director of Public Health and the spokesman for the Ministry of Health (MISAU), said during a meeting that is taking place since Monday in Maputo, that the lack of food is often cited as one of the reasons which determines non-compliance with medical prescriptions and the consequent withdrawal of treatment.

ECOSIDA trains companies on HIV/AIDS
The Association of AIDS (ECOSIDA) started yesterday in Maputo, a training course for peer educators involving workers from 20 small and medium enterprises (SMEs), a program funded by the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
Balbina Santos, who is responsible for the area of policies and programs at ECOSIDA, said that the course aims to create skills to businessmen, to further develop prevention activities and proliferation of information on HIV/AIDS for their employees.
