This year: Fight against corruption has over 400 cases
Provisional figures for this year indicate that the Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC) and the Provincial Prosecutor handled 403 cases of corruption, of which 104 were charged, 34 were filed and 19 were prosecuted. In the same period, 47 criminal cases of misuse of funds and property of the State were penalized, plus the 84 forward from last year, add up to 131. Of these, 51 were charged, 6 filed and 8 judged. This information was revealed yesterday in Maputo, by the director of that institution hosted by the Attorney General's Office, Ana Maria Gemo, in a seminar on corruption that marked the central ceremonies of the International Day against this social evil that was pointed out yesterday in the world. RENAMO in Sofala is preparing demonstrations

Mozambique this year will produce 90 thousand tons of cashew nuts
According to the National Cashew Institute (INCAJU), Mozambique will have on the present marketing year 90 thousand tons of cashew nuts. The production is more than enough to supply the 22 processing plants. 60 thousand tons of cashew nuts will be exported raw, as in Mozambique there is no capacity for processing. According to a source, Mozambique will have capacity of processing 60 thousand tons in ten years, still far from 75 tons that processed in the years 90, when the sector was liberalized. IMF said that the Mozambican economy has shown "unexpected strength" despite the global crisis.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced Wednesday that will grant Mozambique with a loan of 22.6 million U.S. dollars, the second anti-crisis assistance to the country. The Fund also argues that, despite the negative effects of the crisis in the Mozambican economy this showed "unexpected strength", thanks in part to the "response time of authorities in the relaxation of macroeconomic policies." Mozambique's road network will be reclassified
According to the General Director of the National Roads Administration (ANE), Nelson Nunes, the Government will undertake the upgrading of roads in order to define the responsibilities of the central, provincial and district maintenance. Nunes also said the district will have an important role with regard to the maintenance of roads as part of a decentralization that will be deepened. According to the General Director of Customs of Mozambique, Domingos Tivane, its institution is about to meet the target of revenue collection set for this year. So far, the latter has grossed 15.1 billion Meticais, equivalent to 92.4% from 16.3 billion Meticais scheduled for this year, about the ending. ANEMO wants law for nursing
The Nurses Association of Mozambique (ANEMO) will submit to a draft law regulating the activity of nursing to the Council of Ministers. The outline of the draft is being completed, a partnership between the members of this organization and some lawyers authoritative on the subject. GABINFO establishes gender unit
The Information Office (GABINFO) opened a Gender Unit (UG) in Media, an institution that aims to promote gender equality and the reduction of inequalities between men and women. Speaking on the occasion, the Director of GABINFO, Felisberto Tinga said that the Government is convinced that the institutionalization of UG's in all sectors of economic, social and cultural development will contribute largely to the pursuit of the objectives of combating absolute poverty, promote wealth creation and social welfare. “Airports case”: Isidora Faztudo admits having received 300 thousand Mt
Isidora Faztudo, Chairman of Board of Directors (PCA) of 2M, admitted yesterday in the court that she had received from the hands of former Finance Director of Airports of Mozambique, Hermenegildo Mavala, a monetary value of 300 thousand Meticais, in June 2007. She said that the amount was delivered as part of the 400 thousand that Mozambique Airports paid for the achievement of a political event occurred in Zixaxa, during celebrations of the 45th years of the foundation of FRELIMO. Police Sergeant answers for the murder of Augusto Cuvilas
The criminal court of Maputo City, heard yesterday, the defendant Mario Antonio, accused of being the perpetrator of the death of Professor Augusto Cuvilas and Fernando Manuel, guard of the residence of the first victim. Police Sergeant, Mario Antonio, assigned to the 13th Police Station of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) is the only defendant who is facing justice. Augusto Cuvilas and his guard were killed on the morning of December 22, 2007, following serious injuries caused by gunshots fired by police officers. Officials of the Police involved in escape of inmates
Six police officials of PRM in Beira are in charge allegedly for their involvement in the escape of five individuals in a maximum-security jail, registered on 30th November. According to the spokesperson of PRM in Beira, Feliciano Dique, it seems that those officials facilitated the escape of the inmates, given that the cells of the prison have a strong safety device.
