The Mozambican Minister of Justice, Benvinda Levy, confirmed the occurrence of torture and mistreatment of detainees in maximum security jail, commonly known as BO, located outside the capital of Mozambique. She also promised to take several measures against the authors.
In contact with the Minister of Justice, prisoners confirmed the occurrence of torture on 31 March, 4 and 7th April, as a result of failure to comply with some rules of the BO, including the prohibition of cell phone use and disobedience of hours of collection. Some inmates said that the assaults occurred in the presence of the Director of the jail. However, the Director of 'BO', Renato Francisco Jaime, who also confirmed the occurrence of torture and mistreatment, refutes allegations realizing that he had given orders that would make that happen.
