MOZAMBIQUE: DEMOCRACY, GOVERNANCE AND CORRUPTION
Constitutional Council maintains the decision of the CNE
The Constitutional Council (CC) dismissed the claims of all parties that had been partially or completely excluded from the general elections of 28 October by the National Electoral Commission. In ruling delivered yesterday to the claimant parties, the CC considers the reasons stated in the resources of 14 political parties submitted to that organ against the decision 65/CNE/2009, 5 September, with no legal basis for sustainability, which makes them invalid, thereby maintaining the decision of the National Electoral Commission. Political parties promise to make a decision today on the decision of that organ.

National Electoral Commission favoured PLD - say CIP and AWEPA
The National Electoral Commission (CNE) that this election has lost credit in the eyes of many citizens and civil society organizations in Mozambique and abroad, is accused this time of giving special treatment to political parties competing for the election of 28 October. CNE has favoured the draft Freedom Democratic Party (PLD), an organization which has no statutes published in Government Gazette and therefore with no legal existence.
The PLD is seen as a work of special-interest groups, to scatter the votes of Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), to the extent that the PLD has adopted as its symbol a turkey to be confused with the MDM which has a cock as its symbol. And the fact that the PLD has been admitted in all constituencies except one where even ran - Zambezia - is also seen as the interest of the FRELIMO and RENAMO.
